Dominik Francis Lukowski was born in Suwalki, Poland December 24, 1880. In 1905 in Poland he married Stefania Buchowiecka
who was born in 1887 in Nowa Wies, Poland. Dom was the son of Andrzej and Wiktoria Danilowicz Lukowski. Dominik came to America
in 1906 upon arrival he stayed with family that was already living in Auburn, Konstanty Szulc, who was living at 5 Rock Ave.
According to the Ellis Island records Dominik arrived in America April 2, 1907 and listed Konstanty as a brother-in-law. I
have spoken with Tadeusz Izbicki who resides in Poland as he is the grandson of Konstanty. He was able to tell me that Dominik
was actually the first cousin to him. His mother was Marianna Lukowska whose father was the brother of Dominik's father. As
Tadeusz told me there have been so many wars in Poland if we try to go back any further than 100 years there are no or scattered records
so it will be very difficult. But we do know that Marianna had a sister named Aleksandra (Alexsandra) Lukowska who married
into the Bialaszeski family, which you will find also in this website.
Dominik retired from International Harvester and was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church on Pulaski St., Auburn,
N.Y. In his obituary he lists as still living a sister Mrs. Alex Stawiecki, and a brother Bernard Lukowski both living in
Webster, Mass. Family members only remembered her name as Tilly and the brother as Benny. It is also remembered that she and
her husband Alex either owned or managed a place with a name similar to Back Bay Tavern.
Dominik did send packages back to Poland with many supplies during one of the wars they had to his brother, named
Piotr (Peter) Lukowski. Tadeusz spoke with the son of Piotr, Jan (John) Lukowski, who remebered his father receiving the packages.
Dominik was the confirmatin sponsor for John Joseph Bialaszewski at St. Hyacinth Church, Auburn, Cayuga, New York on November
1, 1914.
Stefania did not know what day or month she was born only that the leaves were turning. It is unknown if this is the
American or European fall season. She did have a sister and brother listed in her obituary, Mary Danielowicz and John Buchowiecki
living in Worchester, Mass. The spelling of her maiden name has been found with several spellings, Buhowiecki, Buhowiecka,
Buchowiecki, and Buchowiecka. It was explained by Tadeusz that the females spelled their last names in Polish with an "A"
at the end as opposed to an "I" or "Y" as a feminine version.
Dominik and Stefania had 8 children of which only 6 survived to adulthood.
